About Us

Community Grief Resources and Support (CGRAS) is a one-stop-shop for grieving individuals to gain understanding about the unique nature of grief. We strive to provide education as well as a comprehensive list of resources and support available in Maryland.

Why We Exist

Grief and loss can be taboo subjects in society today. Messages about grief are often to “get over it,” “move on,” or “find someone or something else.” These strategies don’t provide the necessary space for people to authentically mourn their loss in a way that feels meaningful or effective. Grief leaves people in a fog – affecting people on a physical, emotional, cognitive, behavioral, and spiritual level. For some, it becomes challenging to maintain their basic needs, much less weed through the internet to find information, support, or resources that are truly helpful.

Our goal is to do that hard work of mining the internet for the best information, support, and resources available to grievers in Maryland.

Who We Are

CGRAS is run by a team of aftercare and outreach professionals from The Living Legacy Foundation of Maryland (The LLF). The LLF is the organ procurement organization for the state of Maryland – we save and enhance lives through organ, eye, and tissue donation while honoring the generosity of our donors. While our professional teams do a significant amount of work supporting donor families, this page is meant to be a resource for our entire Maryland community and beyond.

Important disclaimer:

CGRAS is not a substitute for in-person therapy, mental health services, crisis intervention, or a treatment referral center. If you are feeling suicidal, please call 911, 1-800-SUICIDE (1-800-784-2433), or go to your nearest emergency room. It’s important to recognize that while grief is a universal experience, each individual will have their own unique grief experience and support needs may be different for each person. It is important to consider the benefits and potential challenges that various support opportunities may have and decide what may be the most meaningful to you.
